2D Animation Training: 1 Year Professional Diploma Program
We’re super excited to tell you that we’ve a brand new 2D Animation program based at our Kelowna, BC campus. The one year training program – 2D Animation & Digital Art – is an intensive year round hands-on training opportunity perfect for anyone passionate about cartoons, digital and interactive art, and illustration in particular.
The industry is in need of talented 2D animators in a number of areas, especially with the surge of mobile gaming (much of which is based solely on 2D digital art), and interactive content. The program covers everything you will need for a career in 2D Animation and Digital Art, including classical and digital animation, character and interface design, storyboarding, visual communication, digital painting, life drawing, and layout and production.
We talked to Sean Ridgway to get the inside scoop on why the program was created (in response to industry demand for 2D specialists), and what kind of students might be interested in it: (learn more about Sean below!)
“The 2D Animation & Digital Art program was designed for passionate, creative artists with a penchant for drawing and painting both traditionally and digitally as well as entertaining and providing engaging experiences through humour, story and social media content.
The program will provide specific insight into the industries of broadcast, film and interactive entertainment that utilize these skills and deal with subject matter that appeals to this generation. There are endless career opportunities for artists with these skills and this program will help foster and develop that into a professional portfolio.”
Seats are limited, so if you want to be a part of the inaugural group of 2D Animation students this October (it’s going to be a fun group!) contact us through our online form, or by calling toll free 1-866-860-2787. We look forward to hearing you!
Sean Ridgway | Animation Department Head | Kelowna
After graduating the Classical Animation program at Sheridan College, Sean jumped right into animating and developing CD-Rom games for a software company in Oakville. Moving west in 1994, Sean worked on many projects, working for Delaney and Friends, Studio ‘B’ Productions and Bardel Entertainment designing on many television shows such as The Magic School Bus and Tales from the Cryptkeeper. When Disney opened a studio in Vancouver, Sean spent four years helping animate many feature-length projects including the award winning Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas.
Always looking for a challenge and a chance to broaden his skills, Sean accepted a position as a computer graphic artist on the NBA Live team at Electronic Arts Canada in Burnaby, BC. But after a year, he was lured back to the traditional world of Classical Animation, accepting a position at a burgeoning studio in Vancouver to help develop and design characters for a new series. Sean has now worked with the Centre for Arts and Technology for almost 9 years in the role of Department Head and full-time instructor.
