  4. Audio Engineering Graduate | Brett Ardiel

“I have a dream of doing sound for film”, said Brett Ardiel while attending the Centre for Arts and Technology.  Brett is one of our earlier graduates of the Audio Engineering & Production program in Fredericton. Over the years, he has become a very experienced audio engineer within the Canadian documentary film industry, specifically for numerous CBC projects.

Brett was the Winner for Best Overall Sound at the 2011 Rosie Awards (Alberta Film & Television Awards).  The winning documentary that he worked on was ‘The Nature of Things with David Suzuki – Code Breakers’.  This documentary was also the winner for Best Documentary at the 2011 Rosie Awards and Best Science and Nature Documentary at the 2011 Gemini Awards.

In 2012, Brett and his colleague Perry Blackman were nominated for two Best Overall Sound Rosie Awards; one for ‘Lost Years’ and another for ‘The Nature of Things with David Suzuki – Perfect Runner’. Both of these films were nominated at the 2012 Canadian Screen Awards, where the ‘Lost Years’ was nominated for Best Sound in an Information/Documentary Program or Series and “Perfect Runner” won Best Documentary.   Ardiel and Blackman were nominated again for Best Overall Sound in 2013 at the Rosie Awards for the film ‘The Auctioneer’.

More recently, Ardiel and Blackman have worked on the documentary film ‘Oil Calling’ and ‘This is What Democracy Sounds Like: Defending the Public Sector’, both of which have aired on CBC in 2013.
