Last week, staff, students and grads from many of our programs, joined forces to create an interactive demo and display at Kelowna’s Orchard Park Mall. The participating programs included Animation, Digital Photography, Digital Filmmaking, Fashion Design & Merchandising, Interior Design, Event & Promotions Management, and Graphic & Digital Media Design.
Third quarter Digital Photography student, Emilee Zaitsoff, wrote about the fashion photoshoot in a photojournalism style for one of her classes. Here she is to tell us about it!
(Stay tuned to the blog – we’re going to be talking with Emilee about her school experience coming up!)
Fashion Photoshoot Demonstration, Kelowna
Story and photos by Emilee Zaitsoff
On Thursday, January 26th, the Centre for Arts and Technology Okanagan (CATO) collaborated with M.C. College to bring a high-end fashion shoot to life in the Orchard Park Mall.
The four-hour demonstration featured the sleek, chic clothing designs of CATO Fashion and Merchandising grad, Roxanne Garand. The professional models were given stylized makeovers complete with hair and make-up by a team of M.C. College students. The CATO Digital Photography department provided a professional backdrop and arranged dramatic lighting that was unique to each outfit.
Lead Photographer and fourth quarter student, Christie Finlayson, gave a high-energy demonstration of a fashion photographer at work, and the images were instantly displayed on a large screen beside the makeshift studio. Digital Photography student Brent Pabsdorf did on-site photo manipulations to exemplify the workings of a high-volume photo studio. A group of third quarter students helped out as lighting assistants.
With a constant crowd of shoppers watching the demonstrations, the kick-off of this weekend-long recruitment campaign for the Centre for Arts and Technology was a great success. It was exciting to see different quarters and departments working together to create a professional photo shoot.
You can view some of the finished photographs on Christie’s website www.christiejill.com.
