We chatted with Eman Mustafa, one of our recent Fashion Design & Merchandising grads who was recently featured on CTV Atlantic, after showcasing her final collection at Phase; Emerging Designer Showcase.
Here’s an inside look at the conversation!
CAT: Tell us about the weeks leading up to your final show. What were you feeling?
Eman: That I was excited for the show and for what is to come afterwards. It has been a short two years in which we learned a ton of new things!
CAT: Can you tell us about your final collection? What were your inspirations?
Eman: I’ve been working on my final collection for several months now. My inspiration to create a women’s wear collection comes from Middle Eastern menswear in the 1920′s. The collection revolves around draped skirts, dresses, pants, and tops in jeweled tone colors. I also incorporated of jewelry and embroidery into some pieces to add a glamorous touch.
CAT: What was your biggest challenge in preparing for this show?
Eman: Making sure all my pieces were complete and fitted on the fit model.
CAT: And what were you most excited about for the show?
Eman: Just to see our pieces on the models and on the runway for everyone to see.
CAT: What are your plans now?
Eman: To get a fashion job in Halifax!
CAT: Can you share with us some of your thoughts on the last few years in the program? Highlights? The biggest lesson you’ll take away from this program?
Eman: It’s been a long two years but each quarter passes by fast. There’s so much to learn so staying on track is highly valued.
CAT: Well, thanks for chatting with us Eman! We can’t wait to follow your career journey as a fashion designer!
