This Saturday is going to be an exciting night in Kelowna! It’s the second annual final fashion show of our Fashion Design & Merchandising students. Many students from other programs are involved in the event as well – Event & Promotions Management (producing the event), Digital Photography, and Digital Filmmaking to name a few.
The show is open to the public – find out more on the CATO-Fashion Facebook page. If you’re in the Halifax area, the 1st Annual Fashion Show is happening just a few days later – check it out!
To get an idea of the caliber of talent you can expect to see from these graduates, visit our blog to check out photos from the 1st Annual Kelowna Fashion Show here: Kelowna Graduation Fashion Show 2011.
Below, Hayden Barnard, one of our graduating Event & Promotions Management students, gives us the lowdown on the event:
The Fashion Show Celebrates the Best Designs of the Okanagan
The 2nd Annual Kelowna Fashion Show, created by students from our Event & Promotions Management and Fashion Design & Merchandising programs, will take place on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the Kelowna Community Theatre, 1375 Water Street.
The Fashion Show will showcase the design collections of the graduating students of the Fashion Design & Merchandising program as well as the fall fashion lines of Kelowna’s hottest boutiques. “Our goal is to bring the local community together for this fun and exciting evening of fashion and entertainment,” says Miranda Johnson, event leader. “We will be featuring the fashion design collections of five graduates as well as six boutiques which will feature their tops picks for the fall/winter season.” With the assistance of Marvel College students the models will look amazing.
For the second year running, Reflections Dance Studio will choreograph and perform original dance numbers to enhance the audience experience. “We greatly appreciate the work that these students do to deliver such a professional-quality event and we are honoured to be a part of the evening,” says Jodie Klingbeil, owner and director of Reflections Dance Studio.
The first half of The Fashion Show will feature the fashions of local Kelowna boutiques: The Wardrobe Boutique, La Belle Boutique, Raw Athletics, Asphalt Shoes, Bella Clothing Boutique and dlux Boutique. The final half of the night will feature the designs of the graduating fashion students. “The lines are exceptionally creative and diverse,” says Suzette van Bakel, Department Head of the Fashion, Design and Merchandising Program. “I am extremely proud of these students and I am certain the audience will be amazed and inspired by their work.”
“We are pleased to be the host facility for The Fashion Show,” says Randy Zahara, Manager of the Kelowna Community Theatre. “The inaugural event was extremely well received last year and the support for it continues to grow.”
The Fashion Show starts at 7:30 pm on Saturday September 22nd. Tickets are $27.50 including tax and service fees and are available through selectyourtickets.ca or at the box office at Prospera Place. A red carpet welcome with professional photographer; the opportunity to win $100 gift certificates from sponsor boutiques; and a fun photo booth are just some of the additional highlights of the evening. We are also supporting the Kelowna Food Bank this year and if attendees bring a non-perishable food item they will receive a ticket for the draw for the sponsor gift certificates.
This is an amazing event being supported by the Kelowna community from the students at the Centre for Arts and Technology, the Kelowna Community Theatre, the local boutiques, a local dance studio and students in the beauty industry. It is great to see so many people coming from all over the city to showcase what is available here in Kelowna.
