Our Halifax campus took part in Nocturne: Art at Night this year on October 13, 2012. Nocturne is a fall festival now in its fifth year, which showcases and celebrates the visual arts scene in Halifax. Over the course of the six hour nighttime event, we saw over 2000 visitors walk through the school to check out our exhibit of student work, which included an animation reel, as well as a variety of photography, graphic design and fashion pieces displayed on the Barrington and Granville Street floors.
Next year we plan to make our Nocturne exhibit even bigger and better to celebrate our talented student body and instructors. We hope to see you there!
What is Nocturne?
Nocturne: Art at Night is a fall festival that brings art and energy to the streets of Halifax between 6 p.m.-midnight. Designed and planned by volunteers, Nocturne is an opportunity for everyone to experience the art of Halifax in a whole new light.
The volunteer Nocturne Committee lends voice and agency to the Halifax arts community by facilitating collaborations and exhibition opportunities in the form of a free, nighttime contemporary arts event. The objective of the committee is to execute an annual event that highlights the existing arts community in the Halifax area that serves both the residents of the Halifax Regional Municipality and tourists. The committee acts as facilitator for galleries, artists and volunteers to provide an annual arts event in both private and public spaces. By creating an accessible yet professional arts event for the community, the Nocturne committee aims for integrity and inclusiveness in all facets of event planning.
Nocturne is a non-for-profit organization which relies on sponsor and volunteer support. The Board of Directors and Nocturne Committee work on a volunteer basis to design and plan the signature Halifax art event.
