News

Kelowna plays host to the Okanagan’s first ever Startup Week beginning this weekend. This week long event focuses on encouraging young professionals to network through means of music, education and entertainment.  The event also serves as a showcase of amazing professional talent and fosters community connections and growth.

The event begins tonight at the Laurel Packinghouse where TimeDRIVE will kick off the week of activities.TimeDRIVE connects young professionals and gives them the opportunity to bid on silent auction items in exchange for volunteered time and skills rather than for cash. It’s a great opportunity to give back to the community while having the opportunity to demonstrate your talents.

TimeDrive will immediately be followed by Global Music Fest. Global Music Fest showcases multicultural musical talent from all over British Columbia and gives participants of TimeDrive the opportunity to carry on their socializing throughout the rest of the evening.

Next week the event carries on with activities that include: Entrepreneurs Unplugged – a monthly session where individuals with technical backgrounds come together to educate each other on entrepreneurial startups while indulging in great food, drink and networking. This Monday features two of the three Club Penguin founders, Lance Priebe and Lane Merrifield.

Pitch Pit gives 20 Okanagan startups the opportunity to pitch their business venture ideas in 1 minute or less while enjoying refreshments and key networking opportunities.

To really lighten things up, comedian and actor Tom Green takes to the Kelowna Community Theatre stage on Thursday night for an evening which is sure to be chock full of laughter and fun.

The weeklong event is finished off by Startup Weekend Okanagan, a global movement for entrepreneurs looking to create their own startups. Startup Weekend gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to receive real time feedback from their peers and industry experts as well as the chance to socialize and network with those within their community.
