  2. Student gearing up for Telio's "Canada's Next Great Designer" Competition

From Telio “This 2012 edition is held on the theme Rouge+Red, a colour range clearly evoking creativity.”

We recently profiled Halifax Fashion Design & Merchandising student Mitchell Gilroy, and his advancement to finalist in Telio’s Canada’s Next Great Designer Competition.

In November 2011, Mitchell was awarded as a finalist in the design competition, with a $15,000 scholarship up for grabs, and the chance to showcase his designs at Montreal Fashion Week.

According to Heather, a staff member at our Halifax campus, in preparation for the runway “Mitchell has been putting in some long hours-he’s usually here working in the middle of the night!” We can’t wait to see what Mitchell has designed for the competition – it will all be revealed during Montreal Fashion Week, happening February 6-9. The theme of the competition is “Rouge & Red”, so it’s going to be one hot runway!

Halifax fashion blog Full Length Mirror, recently published great story about Mitchell and his journey to Montreal fashion week. “At age twenty Mitchell Stuart Gilroy has already been recognized as one of Banana Republic’s top 100 sales associates in North America. An avid student of fashion design and merchandising, Gilroy has been selected to compete in Telio’s Canada’s Breakthrough Designers 2012 Competition. Participation in the February competition includes attending Montréal Fashion Week and the opportunity for this young Atlantic Canadian go-getter to watch his own work walk down the runway.”
